Dessert is a category line — two slots at twelve guests — and claiming one asks what you're bringing. The invitation then reads “Dessert · 1 of 2 spoken for” with “Maya — pecan pie” below it, so the next person sees the pie is taken before they start the crust. The mains, sides and salads work the same way.
Someone's plans changed — can they drop a line?
Yes, with no deadline: “Not any more” sits beside their own claim and reopens the slot for anyone. If they switch their reply to Can't make it instead, the release happens on its own — every line they were holding goes back on the list the moment they tap it.
